Driving Requirements
Visitors may drive on a valid foreign license for up to six months from the date of entry. If the license is not in Dutch, English or Spanish, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required alongside the original license.

Third-party liability insurance is compulsory for all vehicles on public roads. Rental companies typically include this minimum coverage in the base rate and offer optional collision-damage waivers or theft protection for an extra fee.
Rental companies universally require a credit card in the main driver's name for the security hold. Debit cards are rarely accepted. The deposit amount varies by company and vehicle class, so check terms before booking.
Traffic drives on the left. Right turns on red are prohibited unless a green arrow is displayed. At roundabouts, vehicles already circulating have priority, and headlights must be used from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
