Suriname Airport Transfer Guide (2026) - All Options & Tips
Navigate Suriname's airport transfer reliably using current arrival information from Johan Adolf Pengel International and your accommodation.
Johan Adolf Pengel International lies well south of Paramaribo, so the airport run is a long road transfer, usually arranged in advance through your accommodation.
We have not yet verified how travellers currently reach Suriname from the airport serving it, so we are not publishing routes, operators or fares we cannot stand behind. For what is running on the day you travel, the arrivals information published by your arrival airport is the reliable source, and your accommodation will usually know what works best for the hour you land.
Helpful Tips
Download the Telesur app to top up prepaid GSM bus cards at any street vendor.
Paramaribo, Zanderij airport shuttles leave from Heerenstraat terminal, not the main bus park. Ignore the main lot. Head straight to Heerenstraat. Drivers load fast. Board early.
Water taxis across the Suriname River dock behind the Central Market and accept cash only. No cards. Bring small bills. The queue moves quickly.
Night buses to Nieuw Nickerie depart from the southern side of the Saramaccastraat terminal after 9 PM. Arrive by 8:30. Seats fill fast. Bring snacks.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unlicensed taxi touts at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport quote inflated fixed fares to Paramaribo, often double the metered rate. Use only the official taxi queue outside arrivals or pre-book through your accommodation.
Currency-exchange booths inside the terminal advertise "no commission" but apply a hidden spread of 10, 15 % above the mid-market rate. Compare the offered rate with a reliable currency app before handing over cash, or wait to exchange in town.
Baggage porters insist on carrying bags the short distance to the taxi rank and then demand an excessive tip, sometimes more than the taxi fare itself. Politely decline assistance unless you are willing to pay a small, pre-agreed amount.
